Lakes
Pure, clean water permeates the core of the Payette River Mountain Region in the summertime, creating a recreational paradise for you. Glacial lakes like Big Payette Lake and man-made gems like Lake Cascade are the main attractions. Toss in more than 150 mountain lakes,– many of them well-stocked with fish, and you have a fisherman’s heaven.
Rivers
When the spring sun converts powder snow into pure rushing water, it’s time to jump into kayaks and rafts for a wild ride on the Payette River. Whether the North Fork, South Fork or Main, all three rivers are conveniently close by, and they promise many day’s worth of fun and excitement
Golf
The area features six 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. Tamarack Resort’s Osprey Meadows and the City of Cascade’s 9-hole course, of which several holes parallel the shores of Lake Cascade, afford views of bald eagles and ospreys that hover overhead. At the Whitetail Club, Meadow Creek, Jug Mountain Ranch, City of McCall’s 27-hole spread, and Terrace Lakes, mountains tower high above the pine-studded fairways, enough to distract your attention for a few moments and diffuse any grief that might come from missing that birdie putt.
Trails
If you like to hike, ride a mountain bike or have a sport vehicle, the Payette River Mountain Region has so many options it’ll make your head spin. From lift-served trail systems to the extensive road systems of two national forests, travel adventures are limitless.
